Farmer’s Hut

Back

The client wanted simple huts for overnight stays, offering guests experience with hands-on farm work near a farmhouse restaurant, built by the farm staff themselves.
A basic foundation of U-shaped channels filled with sandbags was used. Triangular frames were made from 3.1m-long, 140mm diameter, 10mm thick paper tubes and wooden joints, forming a 3.57m square truss structure. Students from Keio University SFC Shigeru Ban Laboratory and The University of Shiga Prefecture Hirokazu Toki Laboratory assembled the prototype, which was later moved to Awaji Island.
