The sloping site was extremely steep in some locations, even greater than 45 degrees, and there was no extra budget to spend on foundations, and the client requested for a low-cost project. In order to maintain the beautiful views and also the necessary privacy, precast piles, usually used for pile foundations, were instead inserted into individual footing foundations and extended up through the building to support the floor and the roof. The south and east were open to the views, and the west and north were made from two layers of polycarbonate panels which were filled in with polystyrene balls to increase their insulative properties.
