This is an attempt at using modern materials to preserve the adjustable interior exterior spatial continuity found in the old traditional Japanese house where the client used to live. A large tent material curtain hanging from the third floor all the way down to the second floor not only acts to block lines of sight from surrounding houses, and also to controls light, the terrace space between the curtain and internal sliding glass doors creates an insulative barrier for the interior. Elements from traditional houses that create openness and control the interior environment, such as shoji screens, fusuma sliding partitions, amado storm shutters, sudare hanging screens, are reinterpreted with this Curtain Wall.
