Ogijima Pavilion

Back

This project was created in collaboration with artist Oscar Oiwa for the Setouchi Triennale 2022. After the Triennale, it serves as accommodation until the next art festival. The site is located on a hilltop overlooking the sea on Ogijima, an island in the central Seto Inland Sea. The structure is composed of columns and double beams made using paper tubes. The ceiling is designed to evoke the delicate aesthetic of a bamboo ceiling and is composed of thin paper tubes densely arranged across its surface. On the three large sliding windows, Oiwa painted images that blend with the real scenery visible through the windows. Each window features a unique painting, and when all three overlap, a new composite image emerges.
