Temporary two-floor wooden temporary housing project using DLT

We plan the temporary housing project in Suzu City, Japan. This is the two-floor wooden house made of Dowel Laminated Timber (DLT). After the period of use as temporary housing is over, the project is planned to continue to be used as permanent housing.

Preparation for Temporary Housing Begins

As a response to the Noto Peninsula Earthquake, we began to design and plan for temporary container housing and temporary housing using Dowel Laminated Timber (DLT).

Features of Container Temporary Housing
– Containers can be stacked to provide a large number of housing units even in areas with limited flat land.
– Containers are stacked in a checkerboard pattern, and glass is inserted between the containers to open up the LDK of each housing unit.
– Using containers ensures sufficient sound insulation from adjacent rooms and on the floors above and below.

Features of DLT Temporary Housing
– DLT is made by lining up a row of lumber, drilling holes, and inserting wooden dowels. No glue or nails are used during this process.
– DLT is a material that is easy for local lumber companies to work with because of its simple processing process, with no gluing process and no need for large-scale manufacturing facilities.
– Staggered stacking of box-shaped units of DLT lumber enables construction in a short period of time.
– The interior will be kept as DLT without additional finishes, allowing the interior space to take full advantange of the texture and materiality of wood.
