Another development of the furniture house, the Nine-Square Grid House replaced the wood frames of the furniture units with steel. In previous furniture units only the back plane was used structurally. But the steel units allowed the use of the side planes as structure, enabling the space of the house to follow the two wall concept with a universal floor in between. Sliding wall partitions were employed to customize the home on a nine-square grid.
