The timber frame of the “Furniture House 1” system is replaced with steel studs to compose the Nine Square Grid House. Previously, only the back face of the furniture unit had been deemed as the structural component, but as steel has a higher strength value, it had become possible to consider the side walls as a structural unit as well. Between the two walls only the kitchen and bathroom are fixed elements, and the square space is divided into a grid of 9 squares with sliding walls running along the grid that can compose different sized spaces depending on the occasion.
