In order to help the victims of the tsunami in 2004, 80 houses and a mosque were planned to recreate the village of Kirinda in the southern part of Sri Lanka. The houses’ structure mainly consists of inexpensive and locally produced compressed earth blocks and furniture units made of wood from local rubber trees, an experimental but locally available building material.
