The site is on a cliff surrounded by trees, where the songs of various birds can be heard.
The first floor is a 7.2m-wide, 3.5m-high, and 81m-long wooden Vierendeel truss structure, accommodating modest monastic-style private rooms and a dining hall. It spans 21 m, and the front end extends as a 12m cantilever. This design helps to reduce the stress on the 21m span.
For the second-floor outdoor deck used for zazen meditation, the structure has been designed to maximize openness and transparency. Laminated timber joists measuring 105×300mm are arranged at 500mm intervals in both the 3m pitch longitudinal direction and the perpendicular direction, forming a joist-like grid. Typically, such joists are supported by large beams running perpendicular. However, introducing large beams would break the continuity between the interior and exterior spaces. To avoid this, the joists themselves have been used as the vertical members of trusses, with flat-bar diagonals inserted between them, forming trusses every 3 meters. This eliminated the need for large beams, effectively making the structure visually disappear.
