Paper Temporary Studio

Back

As a result of winning the competition for the new Centre Pompidou in Metz, came permission to build a temporary studio atop the 6th floor roof terrace of the existing Centre Pompidou in Paris. As it was our first time applying for permission to use a paper tube structure in France, to make it easier to obtain permission and approval, an arch was designed, composed of wooden joints and paper tubes with a diameter of 120mm and a thickness of 22.5mm. This was the same paper tube size that was certified in Germany for the “Japan Pavilion Expo 2000 Hannover”. The paper tube structure was constructed by Japanese and European students.
