Paper Dome

Back

This permanent paper tube structure shelter was designed for a timber specialty contractor so they could work even in snowy winters. Because paper tubes cannot be bent, paper tubes were connected together with laminated timber joints to form an arch. The lateral loads were taken by the structural plywood roof panels. Circular holes were cut out of the plywood to the extent that it does not affect the structure, and a corrugated polycarbonate roof allowed natural light to filter through. This also received ministry certification for paper tube structure.
