Seikei University Library

Back

In order to make it easier for students to gather, the big atrium space was made more flexible to allow light food and talking while reading books. The spaces get quieter as one goes deeper into the library. At the deepest part of the library are personal study booths where the lighting and air conditioning can be individually controlled and the surrounding views can be enjoyed. As these booths run along the perimeter of the building, it also helps as a buffer zone to control the environment for the library stacks. The precast concrete bookshelves, similar to the idea of “Furniture House 1”(1995), are the main structure. In the atrium, glass capsules float in space as seminar rooms.
