The woven LVL structure that was proposed in the “Uno Chiyo Memorial Museum” (2000) was also used in this Daycare Center where the compression members form a tunnel arch and natural light filters through to the interior through the holes created from the woven LVL. In order to avoid an increase in the material thickness due to the structure in compression, as a result, a technique famous in Odate called magewappa was chosen. Odate is a region with heavy snowfall so a 45 degree angle roof is placed above the tunnel arch and with steel rebars forms a truss to resist wind and snow loads.
