The competition of a temporary satellite of the New York Guggenheim Museum in Tokyo required three different phases of the project. The first phase featured a two-story post-and-beam paper tube structure. The second phase proposed two parallel stacks of shipping containers, a shutter façade and a paper-tube structure covered by a transparent membrane. The third phase simplified the components into an overall steel structure with stacking shutters on four sides and a membrane covering the exhibition space.
