A narrow site is divided lengthwise into building and courtyard to create the Ivy Structure house. The construction method makes the interior structure dependent of the exterior structure to free the interior space and to allow the ground floor to open up completely to the outside. The ivy structure is a high wall that acts similarly to a flying buttress with all the loads of the second floor being hung from the structure.
