Shonai Hotel Suiden Terrasse

Back

This hotel contains about 150 rooms and is built in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture. The building was carefully positioned so as to preserve the beautiful rice paddy landscape of the Shonai Plain, which was originally slated for reclamation. Three separate timber structures, each designed to accommodate different hotel functions, have been scattered across the site. The rooms are divided into three clusters of two stories, so that the scale would not be overbearing in the rice fields. In the center of these three buildings, a community building with RC pilotis stands as if it is floating above the field. The RC core and slender steel columns have LVL bearing walls placed on top of them, supporting a laminated timber roof.
