The main facilities, including the main and sub-arenas, are dispersed throughout the site and set into the ground to preserve views of Mount Sakurajima and the surrounding landscape. Covered by a rolling landscape formed from excavated ground, the entire site functions as an expansive rooftop park.
The lobbies for the main arena, sub-arena, and martial arts hall are designed as in-between spaces—flexible areas capable of hosting diverse events. Based on the event’s scale, the main arena, sub-arena, and martial arts hall can be used individually or combined into a single integrated space.
The roof structure of the main and sub-arenas employs a hybrid structure of steel and local timber. This approach creates a warm, wood-enveloped atmosphere while minimizing foundation costs through weight reduction.
It is designed with Matsuda Hirata Sekkei and Nagasono Architects Office.
