Papertube Pavillion for Kokura Castle Bamboo Lantern Festival

Back

Construction by Students in Kitakyushu

We will assemble an outdoor-adapted version of the Paper Partition System, originally developed to secure privacy in evacuation shelters, in collaboration with students from Yamada Laboratory at The University of Kitakyushu and Tokuda Laboratory at Kyushu Institute of Technology.
The columns are made of paper tubes with a diameter of 30 cm, containing tent weights inside. Rafters and ridge beams made of paper tubes are connected using joint components cut from plywood. The paper tubes, made from 100% recycled paper, are finished on the exterior with bamboo paper made from 100% bamboo, and coated with a waterproof finish—bringing this year’s Lantern to life.
