Albania has historically been influenced by various countries, giving it a “multi-layered” cityscape, with its cities comprising a variety of architectural typologies. Located in the middle of the “New Boulevard,” a major thoroughfare currently under construction that stretches north from Skanderbeg Square in the center of the capital, Tirana, this high-rise building articulates various functions, including commercial, office, and residential spaces, by vertically stacking traditional Albanian typologies. The lower floors comprise an intermediate area where people can enjoy strolling around the shops and park, creating a space that continues into the surrounding green spaces and plazas. The middle floors are made up of small-scale boxes that can be used as living and working spaces, stacked one on top of the other. The upper floors are contained in a rational tower, but the south and west sides all feature solar panels on the facades.
