This is a temporary pavilion built at the Embassy of Brazil in Tokyo for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. A large roof from spanning from the street-facing grand stair to the building covers a space of 120m2. The pavilion uses the same rigid connection system as the Paper Partition System installed in evacuation centers following the Great East Japan Earthquake. The proportions were adjusted to match the scale of the space. Paper tube beams (outer diameter 125mm) penetrate columns of outer diameter 430mm with a thickness of 15mm. To create a gradient on the roof, 80mm diameter paper tube purlins and spacers were arranged on the beams and tied down with rope. Cut paper tubes stacked on its sides for a screen facing the street and soccer balls were inserted in the openings.
